Beat the Heat: Summer Health Tips for Students

Summer has arrived! While we all like the break from school, ice creams, cold beverages, and hanging out with friends, summer heat can also be extremely risky if we're not cautious. Summer heat can cause issues like dehydration, sunburn, heatstroke, and fatigue. That's why it is really

important that students like us maintain our health while the summer season is on. Some easy but effective tips to combat the heat during this summer follow below:

1. Stay Hydrated

The first rule of summer is to drink plenty of water. Our body loses a lot of water in the form of sweat, and hence we have to top it up. Make an attempt to consume at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. Coconut water, lemon juice, or fresh fruit juices can also be consumed. Do not consume too much of sugary or carbonated drinks as they leave you more thirsty afterward.

2. Wear Light and Comfortable Clothes

Choose light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes. Cotton absorbs sweat and allows your body to stay cool. Dark colors absorb more heat, so it’s better to wear whites or pastel shades.

3. Avoid the Sun During Peak Hours

The sun's rays are strongest between 12 pm and 4 pm, so try to remain indoors within this period. If you have to venture outdoors, wear a hat or take an umbrella along and always put sunscreen on sun-exposed areas to shield you from sunburn.

4. Eat Fresh and Healthy

Summer is the ideal time to have sweet juicy fruits such as watermelon, mangoes, cucumbers, and oranges. They not only are delicious but also help keep us hydrated. Don't have oily and spicy food as they might upset your stomach during summer.

5. Have Cool Showers

Bathe twice daily or splash cold water on your face and neck to instantly cool down. It cools you body and makes you feel fresh.

6. Rest Well

We tend to feel drowsy and lazy due to the heat. Ensure that you sleep well at night and rest if necessary for short periods during the day. A well-rested body fights the heat better!

7. Be Active — But Smartly

It is nice to be active even in summer, but don't do too much. Do indoor games or short evening strolls when the weather cools down. Don't play outside in the scorching sun.

Conclusion:

Summer is enjoyable and wonderful, if we look after our health, of course! Following these little tips, we can have healthy holidays and do not fall ill. So eat fruits, drink water, avoid getting hot, and enjoy this great summer break!

All of us, together, let us beat the heat like champions!
